So what happens during this 90-minute event?
Using familiar Pokemon characters and colorful game boards and pieces: Students will build tactical thinking, strategic thinking, programming skills, teamwork and more!
This is a fun and engaging way to learn the fundamentals of coding/programming. They are initially paired up into teams and begin a tutorial battle. After that, students may keep or change their fighters and choose to battle in 1vs1 or 2vs2 matches. All students leave with Pokemon goodies!
Students will engage in the following:
Programming: the process of creating a set of instructions that describe how a machine should work, or how a set of tasks should be carried out Tactical thinking: Focuses on in-the-moment execution of activities, relates to tasks and deliverables, centers on improving efficiency and processes. Strategic thinking: Involves longer-term goals, provides broad overall direction towards goals, requires deep thought and alignment between different functional areas. Cognitive skills: or cognitive abilities, are the ways that your brain remembers, reasons, holds attention, solves problems, thinks, reads and learns. In the gaming system like this, cognitive skills help to interpret data and strategize, remember personal or team goals, pay attention during an opponent's turn, make important connections between old and new information to play more effectively!
Ok, that's all very exciting for parents… but how do the students actually experience this?
Students first choose from over 20 of their favorite Pokemon characters. Then they use PROGRAMMING TRACKS to plan out their movements and actions; collecting gems, powering-up and battling each other!
